The Waiting Room- A Point & Click Art Space
Hello world. I'm Devin, a Midwest based programmer & cross disciplinary artist who works in digital mediums. I'm heavily inspired by cyberpunk themes & the romanticism of digital spaces. Through game design I'm creating my views of cyberspace & the digital landscapes I've always dreamed about.
When I started working with X-E-A on a REALLY strange point and click adventure game (Inn Ad Interim) I hit several road blocks while learning to program for such a weird set of mechanics. I finally started creating side projects to have space to play around without destroying the main project. As such, The Waiting Room was born. Both projects are 2D games that place you in a first person perspective. I wanted to figure out the best way to transition between room, as well as a good way to play with perspective. It just so happens a museum is the perfect setting for it.
I was also struggling at the time with the idea that none of my work is centralized in one location, instead I have bits of pieces spread out on different social media. It really made me self conscious on who I was and how I am as an artist. I was beginning to feel as though I wasn't whole. I never had a good website or portfolio to show someone when they asked what I do. I began to think I was a lesser artist because of it. I needed something to hold my ego together.
So, I created an archive of my digital work. This project brings me so much joy. Being able to travel down non-euclidean halls and explore infinite rooms that showcase my different works is the best way to showcase what I do and who I am as an artist. The surreal landscape of it all really helps solidify my weird views , better than a website ever could.
